image001.jpg Aboriginal Enterprise Development Officer Program (AEDO)

This program is funded by the Minister for Education and Training and administered by the NSW Department of Education and Training.
The aim of the program is to assist the establishment and retention of viable, locally designed Aboriginal businesses, and to encourage an entrepreneurial culture within Aboriginal communities.
The program aims to assist Aboriginal people who either wish to become self employed or who are self employed and need advice on small business start-up
and/or management.

DET provides funding to community-based organisations like the BEC to host the AEDO Program and  employ a suitably skilled Aboriginal person as an AEDO

The role of the AEDO is to:

Encourage new Aboriginal enterprises and employment initiatives
Ensure that non-viable business ideas are discouraged
Create and retain employment by encouraging Aboriginal enterprise and development
Foster the establishment of support services to improve the likelihood of new Aboriginal enterprises being successful
Assist the survival of existing Aboriginal businesses
Facilitate the development of small business skills

Encourage an entrepreneurial culture among Aboriginal people
Assist in small business training (eg. NEIS - New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) for Aboriginal people
